The internet has changed the way people live their lives forever. Most things are faster, easier, better and more convenient than ever before.

Life has changed for the better and it’s all thanks to the internet.

Some people are such big fans of the online world that they don’t go the traditional route anymore. From shopping for new boots to shopping for a new car or booking a holiday. If it can’t be done online, why bother at all?

Doing things online has given us more time to do the things we really want to do. Let’s be honest, why would you want to sit in traffic for an hour to get to the store to buy groceries when you can do it from the comfort of your bed/couch/swimming pool and carry-on living life while your items are being delivered to you?

Another thing that’s become more convenient thanks to the internet is online dating. 

Here are some reasons why we think online dating is just as good as traditional dating… If not better.

Options

Traditionally you would meet a potential partner through work, social activities or your friends. Dates are usually set up when you spot a new and very cute colleague, or maybe you’ve found yourself always choosing the treadmill right next to a particular someone at the gym. 

Then there’s always that good old set up or even a blind date when your friends think, no they know that they’ve managed to find you the perfect person and that you’ll just hit it off immediately. It’s funny how you then start questioning your friends’ ability to find you a match and do they even really know you?

Thanks to online dating, your options are just so much more, and the variety is amazing. 

That’s because you could meet someone in a different country with a different upbringing, but your personalities are perfect for one another, and you never would have met if it wasn’t for online dating.

While traditional dating could have led you to your perfect partner, for someone else online dating might be even better than traditional dating.

Comfort is key

One of the beautiful aspects of online dating is that you can really get to know a person even before you meet. That’s because you’re already in a comfortable environment (usually your own home) and because you’re not forced to meet face-to-face, you can be yourself and open up.

You can ask questions without putting the other person on the spot. Why? Because they can take their time to answer the question truthfully and not simply blurt out an answer because you’re in a public place together and the awkward silence between you two is killing the vibe.

You can chat when you’re not rushed, on a deadline or dressed up in uncomfortable clothes. Thanks to online dating the environment is relaxed, easygoing and flexible.

In today’s world where we’re rushed to do one thing and start with something else before we’re even finished with the first thing, online dating can be a gift from above.

With traditional dating, chances are really good that you’re going to sit through the first date right until the very end even if you know you really don’t want to be here let alone go on a second date with the other person.

While you’re in the middle of the first date you’re probably already typing out the text in your head that will let the other person down gently so that they’re not hurt. You just can’t see yourself going through all of this awkwardness again, even if you feel bad about it.

Thanks to online dating, you won’t feel pressurized into something that you’re not comfortable with. So, even if you haven’t even met, it’s just so much easier to simply block the other person on your online dating site.

If you’ve started chatting offline through your phone’s messaging app, you can always just block their number. No tearful goodbyes and lingering hugs, just a simple thank you, but no thank you.

With online dating, there’s always an out before you’ve even met. 

Casual or long-term

Whether you’re looking for something casual or you’re more serious about your life decisions and you’re ready to settle down, online dating can work for both situations.

Sure, you’re able to meet someone for a casual date just about anywhere in the world. But what if a pandemic hits and we’re all forced to work from home and stay put for months (been there, done that) or the usual crowd at your local is anything but interesting.

Hello, online casual date. We’re not saying this has to be a hook-up, it can also just be someone interesting you can take to a work function or a date for a wedding. 

If it doesn’t work out, it’s fine. You gave it a go and it wasn’t for you. No harm done.

While social media might not always give you the exact idea of what a person is like, it could give you a very good idea of what type of person they are and whether you’d be interested to get to know them better or not.
